A New Beginning in Bayoudah: Badiya Wool’s First Locally built Handmade Wool-Processing Unit

We are proud to share a new milestone in Badiya Wool’s journey. Thanks to the generous support of the Inner Wheel Black Iris of Amman Club, we will establish our very first handmade wool processing unit in Bayoudah village, Salt.

This unit will be created under the leadership of Basma Omar, with Elham joining as a key partner in shaping and guiding the work. Together, they will lead the women of Bayoudah in learning Badiya Wool’s special processing steps—transforming raw wool into high-quality fiber while preserving the traditions of the Jordanian Badiya.

The Salt unit will not only provide steady work for women in the community but also ensure that more wool is saved from waste and given new life. Importantly, this facility will serve the Middle Badiya of Jordan by offering local farmers a dedicated space to process and preserve their own wool. Instead of being discarded, the wool from their flocks can now be cleaned, prepared, and transformed into valuable material for weaving and design.

By supporting farmers in saving their wool and creating livelihoods for women, this unit will become a long-term hub that strengthens the wool supply chain across Jordan.

This step reflects what Badiya Wool has always stood for: bringing local resources, communities, and heritage together. The collaboration with Inner Wheel Black Iris of Amman Club shows how collective effort can open new possibilities for resilience, creativity, and sustainable livelihoods.

With this new beginning in Bayoudah, we look forward to weaving more connections—between women, between villages, and between the past and the future.
